Effective Home Remedy For Ear Infections

Before I begin writing about home remedies for ear infections I just want to say that these remedies are to assist with pain relief associated with ear infections. These home remedies should in now way substitute proper medical treatment if it is required. If the pain of ear infection is very severe and does not seem to be subsiding then you need to get a proper diagnosis and medical treatment.

Home remedies are very effective for relieving pressure and pain associated with ear infections. If the infection is mild then home remedies may be all that you need to treat the infection with. These are some of the remedies for ear infections that you can use at home.

Our first home remedy is one that you should have the ingredients for in your kitchen. You will need some onion, garlic and olive oil. Onions and garlic both have very good natural healing agents and can assist with killing bacterial. First you need to cook the onion and garlic in some olive oil, just cook over a low heat. When the ingredients have reduced you then need to strain them so you are just left with the liquid oil, then pour this oil into a clean container. Then apply just a few drops of the onion, garlic oil into the problem ear. This remedy is one of the best for ear infections and works really well.

Another remedy from the kitchen simply uses some lemon juice. Just apply a few drops of undiluted lemon juice into the sore ear and the acidity in the juice neutralizes and kills the bacteria. This is also a very effective remedy for ear infections.

White vinegar is another remedy straight from the kitchen that works well. You will need a mixture of 50% white vinegar and 50% water. Apply four or five drops into the infected ear a few times a day and you will soon see results.

Hydrogen peroxide is our next remedy which is often used on a grazed knee to kill any germs that might occur. Although this is a common use for Hydrogen peroxide but most people don't realize that you can also use it for ear infections. Because this has bubbles, it not only kills germs but it also loosens any blockage and helps clear the ear.

Our next remedy is one that will help to relieve the pain of ear infection. Using a warm compress against the sore ear can help ease the pain. You can use a wheat bag heated up or if you don't have a wheat bag you can put some rice into a sock, tie the top so the rice can't spill out and heat it in the microwave for about a minute.

When using home remedies for ear infections just remember that the ear is quite a sensitive part of the body so you don't want to use anything that will irritate the skin. Bleach and other chemicals are a bad choice so stick to more natural products. You also don't want to go sticking anything into the ear to try and remove blockage as this would be quite painful and could cause damage to the ear.

The remedies mentioned in this article are ones that have been used for years and have proven to be quite effective. What works for one person might not work for another though so if one remedy doesn't work then try another. Remember, if the pain persists to consult your doctor.

Home Remedies For Treating Ear Infections

Ear infections can be incredibly painful and it is so sad to watch your child when they are crying in pain with a sore ear. Even a mild ear infection can be quite painful but a severe infection can be excruciating. Those who suffer from occasional ear infections will know how bad they are, but imagine if you suffer from chronic ear infections.

I'm sure you've heard the saying 'prevention is better than cure', well there are home remedies that you can use to help prevent ear infections and these can be particularly good for those who suffer from chronic infections. There are a number of home remedies you can use for ear infection, but if you do suspect your child has an infection it is best to consult your doctor for a proper diagnosis.

One type of ear infection is 'swimmers ear' and this is caused by water in the ear. Swimmers ear often occurs after someone goes swimming - hence the name. One thing that you can do to prevent swimmers ear is to dry your ears with a hair dryer after you have finished swimming. I know it sounds a little strange and you want to make sure you don't have the hot ear too close, but it does work. The air from the hair dryer will dry the extra moisture that remains in your ear canal and this helps to prevent bacteria from growing in your ear. The other thing you can do is to wear earplugs when you go swimming to prevent water getting into your ear canal. These two tips can let you enjoy your day at the pool without worrying about getting an ear infection later.

Ear infections can also be caused by blocked ear canals. If you have a cold or your sinuses are blocked then the Eustachian tubes can also become blocked, putting pressure on the ear canals. This can be worse at night when you are lying down as your Eustachian tubes can't drain as well as they can during the day when you are upright. Some people are prone to getting this type of ear infection whenever they have a cold.

Here are some tips for unblocking your ears and avoiding an ear infection from developing:

1. Yawning or chewing gum will flex the muscles around the ear canal and can help to 'pop' the ears. The contracting and expanding of these muscles can help the ears to drain.

2. Take a deep breath and then close your mouth. Then close your nostrils and try to blow out through your nose. This also helps to pop your ears and drain the Eustachian tubes.

If you or your children are susceptible to ear infections then there are also some herbal remedies that you can get from the health store or pharmacy. These can help give some relief when suffering from ear infections and reduce that terrible pain that goes hand in hand with these infections.

If you or your child has suffered from an ear infection then you will be aware of how painful they can be. Children do seem to suffer more from ear infections than adults and the pain can be excruciating. It is terrible for a parent to see their child in so much pain and not be able to help them. The good news is that there are some effective home remedies that you can use to relieve the pain of earn infections. If the pain persists or is very severe then you should take your child to see a doctor for a proper diagnosis and possibly prescribed medication.

There are a number of reasons why ear infections occur with the main one's being bacteria growing in excess moisture in the ear (swimmer's ear) or if a child has a cold and their Eustachian tube is blocked. Although these home remedies won't cure their cold, it can help relieve the pain of the infection.

You shouldn't rely completely on home remedies though, it is important if the pain is severe or keeps returning that you see your doctor as soon as you can. Home remedies can be useful to treat a mild earache or to ease the pain until such a time that you can see a doctor.

The good thing about home remedies for ear infections is that they are made from ingredients that you will probably already have in your kitchen. So they are there ready and waiting when you need them. Some ingredients you may not have, but will be able to pick up from the store. If an infection occurs at night when stores are closed, then try another remedy that you do have ingredients for.

One remedy from the kitchen is a combination of garlic and olive oil. Simply simmer the garlic in some olive oil until the garlic cooks down a bit. Then strain the mixture so you are left with the liquid. Let the garlic and oil mixture cool and then apply a few drops into the troublesome ear. You will want to do this while lying down so the sore ear is facing up. Let the mixture sit in the ear for five to ten minutes and then gently rinse out. This mixture is great for pain relief and the garlic also has antibiotic properties.

Another remedy is one that you may need a trip to the store to get the ingredients, which are licorice and ghee. Ghee is a clarified butter that you can find at Indian or Middle Easter markets. Warm the two ingredients together until the have a paste like consistency. Apply the paste around the ear (but not into the ear canal) and this should help with the pain.

Radish and mustard oil are more ingredients from the kitchen that can help you with earaches. Finely chop some radish and heat it up in some mustard oil. Strain the mixture so you are left with a liquid and store in a glass bottle. Then you will have the mixture on hand whenever it is required. Place a few drops into the sore ear for pain relief.

Lastly, this remedy might seem a little odd but many people use it and swear by it. This one actually involved breast milk - human breast milk. You mix the breast milk with some well ground bottle gourd until you get the consistency of paste. Warm the mixture a little, making sure not to get it too hot, and apply to the ear. This can be a good option for mothers with young children that develop an earache.
